ABOUT


Tom Haines is a writer and director with a focus on personal and evocative human stories. With over ten years experience in the world of music videos, commercials and short films, Tom has filmed all over the world and won many awards for his work; MVAs, Vimeo Staff Picks, festival awards. His signature character based music videos have meant working with artists such as Baxter Dury, Unkle, Jon Hopkins, Temper Trap and New Order. 

He has developed his brand of visual storytelling in the commercial world for clients such as Google, Expedia, Land Rover, KFC, Verizon, IBM, Dove - working with international crews and shooting with outstanding DOPs such as Lol Crawley, Jody Lee Lipes and Steven Annis. Tom continues to hone his narrative craft through short films.

The latest Bubbly was made during the pandemic and has premiered at NY Shorts and is continuing its festival run now, building on the success of his shorts The Mission and Night of the Foxes, which premiered at Rotterdam and London Film Festival before winning a Staff Pick, with over 140k views to date.

He has been developing feature scripts with producer Anna Griffin (Calibre, The Levelling) through iFeatures (BFI, BBC Films) and Torino Film Lab.

After art college, Tom worked in documentaries and factual television, making artist profile films for Tate and V&A building to a short series on Channel 4, and prior to that on the BBC politics show as a director-editor. He studied film at the Surrey Institute of Art, where his graduation short film In Memory Of  was nominated at Clermont-Ferrand.
